Winter Health and Wellness with Dr. Kristen Nelson

Saint Mary’s offered a free seminar on Tuesday, December 7, which featured guest speaker Dr. Kristen Nelson, pediatrician with Millard Henry Clinic. Nelson presented on children’s winter wellness and safety, and offered advice on preventing potential mishaps, illnesses and stresses that may accompany the holiday season. Tasty savories and sweets were offered, along with fabulous door prizes from Feltner’s Athlete’s Corner and Hastings Entertainment. River Valley moms and caregivers are invited to a fun and conversational seminar on Tuesday, September 14, featuring Dr. Rick Harrison, pediatrician with Millard Henry Clinic.

Dr. Harrison will offer the latest recommendations on back-to-school health and wellness concerns such as:

• The appropriate use of antibiotics
• "Superbugs" and how to protect your child
• Immunization safety and schedules
• The HPV vaccine, and more.

The event is free! Light refreshments will be offered, as well as door prizes from community partners including $25 in free game play from Hog Wild Family Fun Center, and gift certificates and coupons from The Mulberry Bush Children's Resale.

Baby Signs Workshop

Saint Mary’s goodmoms and Friendship Community Care partnered this spring to bring expectant families and those with children ages infant through 24 months information on Baby Signs. This fun and informative seminar introduced caregivers to the history of the Baby Signs movement and the research behind it. Program developers say that when babies learn to sign, they can jumpstart their intellectual development in many ways. Through signing, parents can purposefully teach babies signs to help babies communicate basic needs until they can use words to communicate.

Door prizes and refreshments were offered to the 30+ guests in attendance, who included moms, dads, infants, siblings, grandparents and friends!

Instructors with Friendship Community Care, Andrea LaPointe and Becky Wooten, presented the interactive program, teaching and practicing 28 basic signs with the audience. Guests were also provided take-home materials and resources for more information on Baby Signs and child development.
